Masahiro Pure Malt Whisky 43% 700ml (GB)

Masahiro Distillery was founded in 1883 by Shobun Higa, whose father Shozoku Higa was the Master Chef for the ancient Ryukyu Kingdom. With the help of Shozoku Higa’s reputation and connections, the distillery was awarded the license to make the traditional Okinawan spirit ‘awamori’ and has since established itself as one of the oldest and largest distilleries in Okinawa. Shozoku’s passion for cuisine can be found alive and well today in Masahiro Distillery’s company philosophy for producing only the best liquors.

Enhancing tradition with modern business philosophy, Masahiro Distillery is the first Okinawan distillery to be certified for ISO 9001 (the international standard for a quality management system), while its scenic environs have attracted tourists and spirit enthusiasts alike.  In 2018, the eighth-generation owner Masayasu Higa successfully launched Okinawa Gin, their first foray into craft whisky and the start of their ambition to become one of the top global producers of premium whisky.

Masahiro Pure Malt Whisky blends a Pure Malt aged in sherry and oak cases for more than three years and Jack Daniel’s first fill bourbon barrel aged for at least half a year. Okinawa’s humid and warm subtropical climate and the Pacific Ocean breeze help accelerate the cask maturation, creating a rich and balanced flavor with hints of tropical fruit.

    Tasting Notes:

Nose: Aromas of citrus, pineapple, banana, and other tropical fruit, with a mellow sweet vanilla ice cream flavor. Sweet and balanced.

Taste: A light body and a delicate malt, with a hint of ginger juice and white woody flavor.

Finish: A short finish of mellow sweetness followed by a lingering spicy taste.

Toashuzo Golden Horse Musashi Pure Malt Whisky 43% 700ml

    Origin Saitama
    Alcohol 43%
    Size 700ml

Musashi is the pure malt expression from the Golden Horse range, which was relaunched in 2016 alongside the Bushu blended whisky. Golden Horse whiskies are made by Toashuzo, a lesser-known but impressive Japanese producer whose whiskies rarely get released outside of Japan. Soft notes of apple, pear and pineapple, with a core of earthy vanilla pod.

    Tasting Notes

    • Aroma: Gentle orchard fruit sweetness — apple, pear, and pineapple — with hints of oatcake and vanilla pod from oak influence.

    • Palate: Soft malt character with silky malt sugar and subtle cereal notes; medium light body.

    • Finish: Clean, lingering grain sweetness with a touch of barley and earthiness.

    Food Pairing Suggestions

    • Smoked meats and charcuterie — the malt sweetness balances smokiness.

    • Dark chocolate and caramel desserts — complements vanilla and toffee notes.

    • Grilled steak or lamb — oak influence pairs well with grilled umami.

    • Hard cheeses — sharp cheddar or aged gouda elevate malt complexity.

    Serving Suggestions

    • Neat or with a couple of drops of water — opens up aromatic layers.

    • On rocks — softens the spirit and highlights fruity and vanilla notes.

    • Great as a digestif post-dinner whisky.

Nagahama Roman 8Yo Pure Malt Whisky 47% 700ml (GB)

Nagahama Distillery founded in 2016 is the smallest distillery in Japan, so their own whisky is not reserved sufficiently yet. Therefore they have been importing whisky from Scotland, where their master blender thoroughly studied about whisky production before the distillery’s foundation. The master blender selected whisky carefully, visiting various distilleries in Scotland. He blended and matured the whisky at Nagahama Distillery.

Nagahama Distillery is located on the side of Lake Biwa which is the largest lake in Japan and called “Mother Lake” . It is said to be very suitable for maturing whisky because amount of the lake’ s water moderates the surrounding climate. The letters of “Roman “ on the bottle mean romance in English. We can say that a new adventure of Nagahama Distillery has begun with the selected whisky in the suitable land.
