Grape Composition: Cabernet Sauvignon–based blend (plus other varietals like Syrah, Petit Verdot, Pinotage per some sources)
Maturation: Aged for 18 months in new French oak barrels
Tasting Notes:
- Bold dark fruit flavors: blackcurrant, plums
- Silky tannins with a smooth, velvety mouthfeel
- Notes of dark chocolate and vanilla on the palate
- Long, indulgent finish
- Also described with “smoky” or “charred” notes reminiscent of a cigar box, oak spices, blueberry, and caramelized sweetness
Story / Inspiration: Created after a fire in the KWV winery in 2018; the name “Black” reflects the smoky, intense character born from that fire.
Cellaring Potential: Can be cellared for about 3–5 years depending on vintage
Food Pairing: Great with roasts, grilled red meats, barbecue, and hearty dishes; also very enjoyable on its own.
